Two Crabs on the Beach

Crabs

One of our favorite meals at our family camp on Grand Isle, Louisiana is boiled crabs. We love July and August when the crabs come in to the shallow waters near the beach, and we are able to catch our own.   They are so plentiful then that it can be somewhat of a nuisance to try to swim without a crab snapping at your toes, but harvesting an ice chest of crabs to boil makes for good eating. The entire family gathers around with fresh French bread, dipping sauce, and an ice chest of cold drink. It does not matter that it takes time to crack the crabs and extract the delicate meat. Time is not important on those lazy summer afternoons as young and old enjoy one another’s company telling stories and jokes.

This is one of my first acrylic paintings originally done to hang in my bedroom at my camp on the island. It was so popular that it is part of my “From Bloom to Brine…the Bounty of Grand Isle “note card collection.
